Biography
Lori Fredricks is an artist who currently works in Yerevan, Armenia. She has always enjoyed experimenting with a variety of media, including watercolor, gouache, and oils. Her work is inspired by everyday landscapes and the multicultural contexts in which she has lived including Tajikistan and Egypt. Lori has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the University of Georgia and a PhD in Language and Literacy Education from Georgia State University. Her career has included working as an illustrator, teacher, researcher, and professor. Lori's work has appeared in Creative Quarterly: The Journal of Art & Design, Artist Portfolio Magazine and in galleries in Georgia and Maryland.
Artist Statement
The purpose of Lori's work is to express how tranquil, spiritual settings offer respites from often chaotic urban life. She interprets the scenes with a high degree of detail to draw the viewer into these playfully unpredictable yet comforting worlds. Her work is meant to not only represent the unique beauty of each particular view but also to evoke the sensations of an openly observant visitor in these settings. Lori strives to immerse the viewer in the momentary freedom experienced in these intimate but shared locations.
